Re-vivification...
Aries 10 expresses a genius for revealing and conveying new sense in old symbols. On a broader scope, it addresses the whole question 'symbols', such as the Sabian symbols, and the task of finding sense within them.
In this on-going exploration of the Sabian symbols, the working definition of 'symbol' is 'that which ever means more'. In other words, symbols, the Sabian symbols, are never going to be exhausted. Their sense and meaning has a life of its own and we do well to continue finding ever more sense while resisting the conceit that 'this means that', period.
Teaching new forms for old symbols could be like re-invigorating meaning in an old worn out symbol, or interpreting an archaic symbol into modern sensibilities.
It can also men merely dressing something up in new clothes. Or, it can mean that fresh sense can be meaningfully conveyed by one who has the knack for doing so.
This morning, conversation in my home played with expressions similar to Aries 10:
"You can take the girl out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of the girl"
What's the difference between "Same barn; new hay" and "Same hay; new barn"
When a heart is transplanted does the heart have a new body, or the body have a new heart?
The Biblical citation "New wine into old Bottles" implies that putting new meaning or life into old conventions and orders leads to disaster. The idea is that young wine expands, and the bottle... really wine-skins as per ancient use... cannot expand with it.
There is a theme of an empty vessel derived from Libra 10 "A canoe approaching safety through dangerous rapids". A canoe is a hollowed out vessel designed to transport, to carry. Because it is hollow, it can convey something: people, goods, sense, meaning. A symbol is like an empty vessel. This implies that is what is made of the canoe/symbol that matters.
As the 5th symbol in this five-fold series, there is an implied genius or knack for pulling off the task of finding and conveying new sense.
