this degree feels quite scorpionic..obviously with eagle archetype but also with the emotional intensity and having a strong integrity towards the emotional reality of life...and scorpios seem to move with the eloquence and nobility of a flag..like they are representatives or symbols of our true spiritual identities..it reminds me of the privacy, conviction, and defensiveness of scorpio...this is ironic considering it is a degree within the first decan of a fixed air sign..any thoughts or insight?

What I find is a consistent degree-symbol inter-relation.

All ninth degree Sabian symbols have a common theme. I call it the 'hook'. Each symbol can be approached through the question 'what, where is the hook?'. The fixed sign 9th degree symbols all deal with sharp objects... pine or fir needles for the Christmas tree decorated (Taurus) instruments, broken glass (diatomaceous earth) in toothpaste for dental work (Scorpio; glass dynamics using heat and cooling, breath and agility for the Glass bowers (Leo); and talons in the Flag turned into an eagle (Aquarius).

I find the sign expression through a symbol can defy stereotypical characterization. Plus, there is a rhythm within, in this case fixed sign symbols, that follows a fourfold pattern (such as Dignity, exultation, fall and detriment).

To me, this allows understanding how a Leo can act like a Taurus or another sign expression, how a Cancer can discharge like an Aries, and vice versa, how a Virgo can put a Leo to shame regarding Leonine characteristics. But it is through the symbols themselves that I derive these insights. My own lack of feeling and facility with Decans and dwad analysis prevents me from making any meaningful comment about that approach as applied to the Sabian symbols.

But there is ever more to learn!

Thanks for your question and keen observations.

thanks! i didnt expect to get such a quick and detailed response...i understand...each degree or symbol should be treated and approached with a sensitivity to its personality regardless of what sign..they are all interconnected...i just love it when a symbol is uncharacteristic of its signs stereotypical defintion...its refreshing..i have your book which has been a great companion...but like you say..there is ever more to learn...and many different senses to the symbols..thanks again!

Yes, thats it.

The core insight approaches the Sabian symbols as a doorway into an extra-dimension of sense. We check our sign expression stereotypes at the door!

Imagine the power of such a tool when doing client work! Instead of the typical Regal, Look-me take of a Leo for example, Leo 10 "Early morning dew" is quite content and creatively gracious about not always being in the limelight. The power of recognizing this in a client is huge... so valuable.

And that is just the start...

michael

i would love for you to take a look at my chart and tell me what you think..is that possible?
